Twenty-four questions, answered plainly

Hiring a painter

Who stands behind a Painter Hotline project?

We do. Our painters are organized into a crew for each trade, and we 100% stand behind every job with an industry-leading 5-year workmanship warranty, protecting you against anything we could have done better or that wasn't done right.

Who are the best painters in Colorado?

Ignore the adjectives and collect paperwork: proof of insurance, a scope listing every prep step, product and sheen for each surface, coat count and a written warranty. A bidder who cannot hand over all five is cheaper for a reason.

Does Colorado license painting contractors?

Colorado does not license painters at the state level, though some cities register contractors. Your real protection is current liability insurance, a detailed written scope and a warranty written in plain language.

How many bids should I get?

Two or three, asking each the same written questions. Beyond that you are collecting numbers for jobs that are not the same job.

Why is one bid so much lower?

Nearly always one of four things: less prep, a cheaper paint line, fewer coats or a weaker warranty. Sometimes it is uninsured labor. Lay the bids next to each other on those lines and the gap explains itself.

Estimates and scheduling

How fast can I get an estimate?

Within one business day for most projects through the virtual estimate. Answer four short questions, upload photos, and a written estimate comes back without a site visit.

Do you need to come to the house?

Not for most projects. Significant peeling, suspected water damage, stucco movement and commercial scopes need a walkthrough, and we will say so rather than guess.

When can you paint my exterior?

Generally mid-May through early October. Denver-area records put the average last spring freeze near May 5 and the first fall freeze near October 7, and elevation tightens both ends. The overnight low governs, because coatings cure through the night.

Can you paint inside during winter?

Yes, and it is the better time. Interior work happens inside a heated building, so weather is irrelevant and the calendar from November through March has room.

What happens if it rains?

We pause, cover what is wet and pick back up when the weather allows. Colorado storms are part of the job, so schedules include slack instead of pretending the sky will cooperate.

The work itself

What preparation is included?

Covering whatever is not being painted, washing, scraping back to paint that is still stuck, feathering the edges, filling, caulking and priming bare or patched spots. Your estimate lists those steps for each surface instead of lumping them under "prep."

How many coats do you apply?

Two finish coats as standard, with primer specified separately wherever the substrate needs it. The count is written into the estimate.

Which paint brands do you use?

Sherwin-Williams, PPG and Behr. The exact line and sheen are named per surface so you can look up the manufacturer's own data sheet.

Why do you run separate crews?

Because interior work, exterior work, cabinet spraying, commercial phasing, deck staining and specialty coatings are genuinely different trades. A crew that does one of them every day gets measurably better at it than a crew that rotates.

Do you move furniture?

We shift and cover the big furniture. If you clear small things, electronics and art first, the job goes faster and can cost less.

Older homes and special cases

My home was built before 1978. What changes?

The federal lead rule. When paid work disturbs paint in a pre-1978 home, the EPA requires a certified firm, containment and a checked cleanup. Our older homes guide explains it.

Do you fix paint jobs done by other companies?

Regularly. We assess whether the existing coating can be feathered and recoated or has to be removed, give you the finding in writing, and will not coat a surface that is going to fail again.

Can you paint brick or stucco?

Yes, through the specialty coatings crew. Masonry is porous and generally needs to breathe, so the coating is chosen for vapor permeability. Painting brick in particular is close to irreversible and we will talk it through first.

Do you work at altitude?

Yes, through the foothills and into Summit County. Higher ultraviolet, a much shorter season and mostly timber surfaces that want penetrating stain rather than paint.

Money and guarantees

How much will my project cost?

Using Angi’s 2026 Denver cost data, exteriors run about $1.55 to $4.10 per square foot and interiors about $2 to $6. The state of the existing paint moves it more than size, so we measure your actual building. Try the cost calculator.

Do you charge for estimates?

No. Free from photos or in person, with no obligation and no follow-up sequence.

When do I pay?

A deposit holds your dates; the rest is due once the work is done and you have walked it. The estimate spells out the terms.

What does the 5-year warranty cover?

Our workmanship: the preparation and the application. If our work fails within five years we return and correct it. The coating carries its own manufacturer warranty alongside ours.

Is there a discount right now?

25% off labor on projects booked by November 15, 2026. Paint and materials are not included in the discount.

How would you like your free estimate?

Both are free and the choice is yours. Older homes, rot and color matching often go better in person; straightforward rooms are usually quicker from photos.
